A New Year, continued progress for GR4FITE3

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the fourth issue of the GR4FITE3 newsletter. As we enter the new year, the past months have been marked by continued project activities and active participation in key events across Europe; from the General Assembly in Paris to Battery Innovation Days 2025 in Graz and the MATSUS Fall 2025 Conference in Valencia.

In this edition, we highlight our partners’ ongoing work on graphite purification and high-temperature reactor design, alongside broader efforts to support the development of a more sustainable and circular European battery supply chain.

The GR4FITE3 team

Project progress

On November 19–20, the GR4FITE3 project held its latest General Assembly in Paris, at the headquarters of the Société Géologique de France, in a meeting organised by BRGM. The consortium gathered to present the most recent project updates and to discuss upcoming activities and priorities for the next phase of the project. An Exploitation Workshop was also conducted to further advance the work on the project’s Key Exploitable Results (KERs) and refine the overall exploitation strategy.

GR4FITE3 joins the conversation at BID 2025

Between 2–3 December, our coordinator Eleonora Calì attended the Battery Innovation Days 2025 in Graz. She presented the project focusing on the recycling aspects.

In case you missed it...

Last August, GR4FITE3 partner IG participated in the International Research and Practice Conference “Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials”, held in a hybrid format in Bukovel, Ukraine.Alexander Khovavko and Eugene Strativnov delivered two online presentations:

The presentations highlighted IG’s ongoing work on graphite purification technologies, with particular emphasis on reactor design and thermal modelling for high-temperature processes.

MATSUS Fall: presentation of poster “Graphite resilience for lithium-ion battery anodes through a sustainable European supply chain”

In October, GR4FITE3 presented a poster at the MATSUS Fall 2025 Conference in Valencia. The poster outlined the project’s work on upgrading natural graphite, drawing on data from the Zavalievsky graphite deposit and applying geological and thermal modelling approaches to support improvements in anode material quality. Market-oriented aspects were also explored, with a focus on contributing to a more sustainable and circular European battery supply chain.
