GR4FITE3 joins the #EUSustainableBatteries campaign: advancing sustainable battery innovation in Europe

The GR4FITE3 project is excited to participate in the #EUSustainableBatteries social media campaign, launched by ICONS in the occasion of the Battery Innovation Days 2024.

Battery Innovation Days, scheduled for November 26-27 in Barcelona and online, is Europe’s premier event for battery research, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss innovations in battery technology, manufacturing, and recycling.

The #EUSustainableBatteries campaign aims to highlight the importance of developing sustainable, locally sourced supply chains for battery materials, emphasizing that investment in research is essential for creating more efficient, longer-lasting, and ultimately more sustainable batteries, which in turn reduces the demand for raw materials while supporting Europe’s climate goals.

Through this social media campaign, we aim to spotlight the essential role of EU-funded projects like GR4FITE3 in driving this change. In this context, our project is dedicated to creating a resilient and sustainable European supply chain for lithium-ion battery anodes, using locally sourced graphite to reduce dependency on imports. The project supports more efficient and cost-effective production of lithium-ion batteries in Europe for use in electric vehicles and energy storage systems for renewable energy sources like solar and wind.

As part of the campaign, GR4FITE3 will share insights in a short interview with Iratxe de Meatza, Advanced Li-ion Team Leader at CIDETEC, a technology leader in electrode and battery cell fabrication. CIDETEC’s expertise is instrumental in supporting the project’s goal of European leadership in sustainable, high-tech battery innovation.
