GR4FITE3 meets Sister Project RESPECT at the LOLABAT Final Event

16 September 2024 — The meeting underscores the importance of project's collaboration in advancing the EU’s goals for a competitive and sustainable battery industry.

Last week, at the Final Event of the LOLABAT project, GR4FITE3’s coordinator Nora Ganzinelli and partner Abdeltif Lahfid had the pleasure of meeting Ben Wilson, representative of the RESPECT project. The meeting marked an important step in fostering collaboration between the sister  projects, which share a common goal of strengthening the European battery ecosystem and advancing sustainable solutions.

RESPECT aims to revolutionize the recycling process of Li-ion batteries by introducing innovative, green technologies that enhance resource recovery, support the circular economy, and bolster Europe’s strategic autonomy in battery manufacturing. The project’s holistic approach encompasses the entire battery value chain—from logistics, sorting, and classification of battery feedstock, to the development of disruptive recycling technologies that ensure safety and environmental sustainability. With a target of achieving a recovery rate of over 90%, RESPECT is poised to transform battery recycling and foster the next generation of battery materials.

GR4FITE3 plans to collaborate with RESPECT and other EU projects and research initiatives, by sharing challenges, results, and joint dissemination activities, contributing to initiatives. These efforts will include cross-project knowledge sharing and event co-organization, all aimed at boosting the impact of EU-funded projects in battery innovation.

On September 9, 2024 both GR4FITE3 and RESPECT participated in a key panel at the LOLABAT Final Event titled Empowering Tomorrow: Advancements in Battery Technology and Sustainable Material Solutions for Production, Recycling, and Supply Chain Management in the EU. Moderated by the BRIDGE Initiative, the panel highlighted the groundbreaking contributions of both projects toward improving battery technologies and sustainable practices in Europe.

The meeting between GR4FITE3 and RESPECT underscores the importance of collaboration in advancing the EU’s goals for a competitive and sustainable battery industry. Both projects are paving the way for innovations that will shape the future of battery technology and material recovery, contributing to Europe’s green transition and strategic autonomy.
